Window replacement in Williamson County

In Central Texas, windows aren’t about winter — they’re about keeping the summer sun out and your cooling bill down. Get quotes from independent local installers, and learn what actually matters before you sit through a four-hour sales pitch.

What it costs, up front: quality replacement windows run roughly $650–$1,200 per window installed in this area. A whole-home replacement of 10–15 windows typically lands $8,000–$16,000. A few windows is proportionally less.

The thing that matters most for a Texas window isn’t the frame brand in the ad — it’s the low-E coating and the SHGC number, which decide how much of that summer heat the glass blocks.

Sun City is right at replacement age

Here’s the local reality: Sun City’s 7,500-plus homes were built from 1996 onward, which means their original builder-grade windows are now 25–30 years old. That’s exactly when the seals fail, the glass fogs between the panes, and the frames stop sealing against the heat. It’s the largest single pool of replacement-ready windows in the county.

The same clock is running on early-2000s Round Rock and Cedar Park homes. And in the newer subdivisions, the story is different — the windows are fine, but homeowners upgrade to better low-E glass specifically to cut down the west- and south-facing solar heat that runs their AC all summer.

The number that actually matters in Texas: SHGC

Salespeople love to talk about U-factor (how well a window insulates against cold). In Central Texas, the number that matters more is SHGC — Solar Heat Gain Coefficient, which measures how much of the sun’s heat the glass lets through. A lower SHGC means less summer heat and a lower cooling bill. For our climate, a low SHGC with a good low-E coating beats an expensive triple-pane window built for northern winters. Ask every installer for the SHGC on the glass they’re quoting — it’s the honest efficiency number here.

What’s driving your project

1

Failed windows

Fog between the panes, drafts, condensation, windows that won’t open or lock. The seal is gone and the window isn’t doing its job. Common in 25+ year old Sun City and early-2000s homes.

2

Energy & comfort

Rooms on the west and south side that are unbearable in the afternoon, and a summer electric bill to match. Better low-E glass with a low SHGC is the fix — often the whole reason people replace here.

How this works

Tell us the situation

Whole home, a few failing windows, or an efficiency upgrade — and roughly how many openings.

We match you locally

We pass your request to independent window installers working in your city — not to everyone who’ll pay for it.

Up to three get in touch

They contact you directly, usually within a business day. Three is the cap, so your phone doesn’t ring for a month.

You choose and hire

Compare the quotes, check insurance, pick one. You contract with them and pay them directly — we never touch your money.

Your phone is not going to ring for a month

You already know what usually happens when you ask for a quote online. That is not how this works, and here are the three rules we run on.

We don’t sell your information.

Not to data brokers. Not to list resellers. Not to anyone outside the contractors serving your city. You can ask us to delete your request at any time.

Three contractors. Not thirty.

The big lead sites sell one request to everyone who’ll buy it — which is exactly why people stop picking up. Three is our hard cap. Want one? Say so and you’ll get one.

You’ll never pay us a cent.

Contractors pay us for referrals. We don’t hold deposits, don’t take a cut of your project, and aren’t a party to your contract — you hire and pay whoever you choose, directly.

Two more things, since they’re fair to ask. We require a current certificate of general liability and workers’ compensation insurance before referring anyone — that’s a screen, not a guarantee, so verify it yourself before you authorize work. And we publish real cost ranges, which almost nobody in this trade will do.

What drives the price

FactorWhy it matters
Number of windowsPriced per opening. Whole-home is cheaper per window than doing a few at a time.
Glass packageLow-E coating and a low SHGC are what make a Texas window worth it — more than frame brand.
Frame materialVinyl is the value standard and does well here; fiberglass and composite cost more and last longer; wood-clad is premium.
Size & shapeBig picture windows and specialty shapes (arches, octagons) cost more per unit.
Install type“Insert” (into the existing frame) is cheaper; “full-frame” replacement costs more but fixes rot and bad seals.

Common questions

What actually makes a window good for Texas?

The SHGC — Solar Heat Gain Coefficient — on the glass. Lower means less summer heat coming through and a lower cooling bill. In our climate that matters more than the U-factor or the frame brand a salesperson leads with. Ask for the SHGC on every quote.

Will new windows pay for themselves?

Partly, and be skeptical of anyone who says otherwise. Good low-E glass will cut your summer cooling bill and make west-facing rooms usable — but the energy savings alone rarely repay the full cost quickly. The real return is comfort, quiet, and no more fogged glass.

How do I avoid the four-hour sales pitch?

Ask for a written, itemized quote — per window, with the SHGC and frame line named — and end the meeting. A price that’s only good if you sign tonight is a tactic, not a deal. Comparing three independent quotes is how you find the real price.

Is this really free?

Yes. Contractors pay us a fee for referrals. You are never charged, and there’s no obligation to hire anyone.

How many companies will call me?

Three at most. If you’d prefer one or two, say so in the notes and we’ll honor it. We’re deliberately not in the business of selling one request to ten companies.

Who actually does the work?

Independent local contractors. We are not a contractor and we don’t perform, supervise, or manage any work. You contract with the company you choose and pay them directly. We’re a referral service operated by Retort Labs LLC in Georgetown.
